Five-month-old baby update- teething, rolling and preparing for weaning

My little bub turned 5 months last week and it’s been a joy to see his development. I’ve really got to grips with how to read different cues from him, whether he’s tired and ready for a nap or wants to play.

The changes from month to month are so amazing to see, I feel like his unique character is really shining through. Laughs are becoming ever more prominent now and I quite literally can’t turn my back anymore since he’s started rolling. He’s definitely keen to get moving and I can see the determination in him to crawl independently.

Feeding

As far as feeding goes, I am still loving breastfeeding Azaiah. I feel like breastfeeding has allowed me to bond further with him and it’s also been a great tool for settling and soothing him.

Azaiah has also been having Kendamil and I’ve been so pleased with this brand. A family owned business, Kendamil use Whole Milk as the main ingredient in their products and source the milk from British farms.

Made in the Lake District, Kendamil products are free from palm oil, fish oil and other additives. My friend recommended using Kendamil and we’ve got on really well with the milk. I mainly use the ready to feed bottles now as I find them handy to grab and heat up on the go.

Tommee Tippee Travel Warmer (This has been a life saver when I’ve needed to heat up bottles when out and about)

Teething

Teething is well and truly under way and so far Azaiah has been coping really well. He’s definitely had moments when he’s been unsettled and struggling but, teething toys have been great for soothing.

The addition of Nelson’s Teetha gel as recommended by my mum has also added some relief. We’ve also been getting through multiple bibs a day with the dribbling so I’ve been investing in more of these. I’ve listed some of my teething must-haves down below.

Nelson’s Teetha Gel

Nelson’s Teetha Granules

Matchstick Monkey Teether

Blossom Farm Fruity Teether Keys (these are one of Azaiah’s favourites)

Weaning Prep

I’ve been anxious about beginning the weaning journey but I’ve felt a lot more confident since I’ve started prepping. I’ve realised that I don’t need to complicate the process and simply need to give different foods a try and go from there.

My mum recommended Annabel Karmel who is a leading voice in all things weaning. I recently bought her new book and it’s been amazing because it breaks everything down and covers all areas. This is a great read for anyone who wants to understand the ins and outs of weaning and get fully prepped.

I feel that we’ll be starting the journey soon as Azaiah is becoming fascinated with food. I am feeling less anxious now and more excited about this next stage, I just can’t believe he’s nearly at this point.

I’ve also invested in a Tommee Tippee blender to create puree’s, this will also take him through to the stage when we will start trying him on solids. I will be reviewing this separately!
